Main Street Mixologist
Bucolic downtown Clifton might at first seem an unlikely place for an edgy Mixologist and an award-winning Chef to ply their respective trades;
but to the delight of those of us in the area who can't make it to H-street every night, as Crispin of Capitol Hill seems to do, and who love fine dining and great drinks, they have found a home at Trummer's on main.
The signature drink, the Titanic, which is featured at the low price of $8 a glass every Tuesday, is a unique -- yet refreshing -- concotion that will have you ditching the usual summer gin and tonic in favor of this lively blend that incorporates champagne into its mixture. Their drinks menu is normally updated once a month, so there is always something new to try out.
We also sampled a rather wide variety of local beers from smaller breweries (not the usual "micro" which these days usually means "macro") from different parts of the country while also enjoying raw oysters and, to finish it off, hand-churned vanilla ice cream. After a few beers, and perhaps somewhat inspired by the creative endeavours of the mixologist, I was even ready to mix things up a bit and have a beer float, which (thankfully) my wife very prudently cautioned against.
And don't worry, you won't have to ask Congress to raise your debt limit, Trummers is reasonably priced (particularly on the aforementioned Tuesdays) and even offers an expansive brunch menu on Sundays for those of you who like a little repast following the weekly matins. Trummer's comes with our highest recommendation and it is an experience you will definitely enjoy. http://trummersonmain.com/home
